About this game

This is the oldest rivalry in video games, rebuilt for two thumbs on a single phone. The screen is split down the middle: player one owns the left half and player two owns the right, and both of you are looking at the same ball at the same time. The first to seven goals wins the match.

There is something the solo games cannot match about a shared screen. You see your opponent’s hand twitch, hear them groan when the ball clips the wall, and there is no lag, no server and no waiting room. Just one device, two people and a rally that keeps getting faster.

What you actually do

Drag anywhere on the left half of the screen to move player one’s paddle, and anywhere on the right half for player two. On a keyboard, W and S control the left paddle while the up and down arrows control the right, so two people can share a laptop too. The paddle’s edge gives the ball spin and angle, so a nudge near the tip sends it away at a sharp diagonal that is much harder to return.

If no one is around, you can switch to a one-player mode against a computer opponent that tracks the ball with a small deliberate error margin, so it is beatable but not careless. Scores, the current rally length and your best rally are tracked on screen, and a short serve countdown resets the ball after every goal.

Tips that make you better

  • Hit the ball with the edge of your paddle to send it away at an angle your opponent cannot reach.
  • Anticipate, do not chase. Move towards where the ball is going, not where it is right now.
  • Use the wall bounce, since a low angled shot that grazes the top or bottom is hard to return.
  • In two-player mode, watch your rival’s thumb, not just the ball, because it telegraphs their next move.
  • Keep rallies alive to raise your best-rally record, which is saved between sessions.

Who it is for

Anyone with a friend, a sibling or a colleague and ten spare minutes. It is a natural fit for a mamak table or an office lunch break, because the whole match fits on one phone and nobody needs to install anything to join in. It is also a friendly way to settle a disagreement without anyone hogging the controller.

Playing it on a phone

Two people holding one phone is the entire point, and the controls are built for it: each player drags their own half with a thumb. There is nothing to download, and the game pauses when you leave the tab, so a waiter arriving with your order will not interrupt the match.

Frequently asked questions

Can two people really share one phone?

Yes, and that is the point. Player one drags the left half of the screen and player two drags the right, so both thumbs stay on their own side of the device.

How do I win a match?

The first player to reach seven goals takes the match. The score and the current rally are shown along the top of the screen.

Can I play alone?

You can. Choose the one-player mode and you will face a computer paddle that tracks the ball with a small error margin, making it fair but beatable.

What is the best rally score?

It tracks the longest run of paddle hits in a single point. Your best rally is saved on the device so you can try to beat it next time.
