About this game
Two tanks sit at opposite ends of a small arena, and only one of them is going to be standing when the round ends. It is a top-down duel with a twist: shells ricochet off the walls once before dying, so a clever player can bank a shot around a corner and catch an opponent who thought they were safe.
This is the most tactical of the two-player games here, because it is not just about reaction speed. You are driving, aiming, dodging and reading the walls all at once, and a round can turn on a single bounced shell.
What you actually do
Player one drives with a joystick drawn in the left half of the screen and fires with a button on the left, while player two uses a joystick and fire button on the right. On a keyboard, player one uses W, A, S and D with Space, and player two uses the arrow keys with Enter. The joystick direction sets both your heading and your aim.
Hit the rival tank three times to take a round, and the first player to win three rounds takes the match. Wooden crates scattered around the arena absorb one hit before breaking, giving you cover and a moving obstacle. A central wall blocks line of sight and reflects shells. Each round opens with a one-second shield on both tanks, a small grace period that stops anyone from being sniped the instant they spawn.
Tips that make you better
- Use the crates as cover. Peek, fire, then tuck back before the return shot arrives.
- Bank shells off the walls deliberately, since a bounce shot is the only way to hit a tank behind the central wall.
- Keep moving. A stationary tank is the easiest target in the arena.
- Do not waste the spawn shield, and advance rather than standing still while it burns down.
- Break the crates early if you can, so your rival loses cover later in the round.
Who it is for
Two players who want a head-to-head duel with real tactics, not just fast thumbs. It is ideal for siblings or friends around one phone on a rainy school-holiday afternoon, and the round structure keeps matches short and tense. It also rewards a patient player who enjoys setting up a shot rather than rushing in.
It also gives a losing player a clear route back, since one good round can swing a whole match.
Playing it on a phone
Two on-screen joysticks and fire buttons are placed on either side of the screen for a shared phone. It installs nothing and runs fine on a mid-range Android, and it pauses on its own if you leave the tab, so nothing interrupts a deciding round.
Both control sets sit within thumb reach, so neither player has to stretch across the screen.
Frequently asked questions
How many hits does a tank take?
Three hits knock out a tank and win the round. The first player to win three rounds takes the match.
What does the shield at the start of a round do?
Each round begins with a one-second shield on both tanks, a short grace period that stops either player being hit the instant they appear.
Do shells bounce?
Yes, once. A shell that hits a wall or the central barrier reflects one time before it disappears, which lets you bank shots around corners.
Can one person play alone?
Tank Duel is built to be shared. There is no computer opponent here, so it works best with a friend beside you on the same phone, though a determined solo player can practise by driving both tanks.
